It's almost impossible not to wonder why half of all American marriages end in divorce. Ever since the advent of the “no-fault” divorce laws in the early 1970s, this statistic has consistently risen. In the past, people only got divorced when they were abandoned or cheated on. There are all sorts of reasons why people are getting divorced nowadays though. If you asked these couples, here are the most common reasons given for wanting to dissolve their unions:
1. People are still getting divorced mainly because of infidelity. Whether this is because more people are cheating these days or because women no longer put up with this behavior in their men, the fact remains that few people want to contend with an unfaithful spouse.
2. You and your partner don't communicate that will, then your marriage definitely won't be on the right track. The only way to know what is going on in your spouse's life is to communicate with them on a daily basis.
3. Physical abuse is another reason why couples are getting divorced nowadays. If you are in an abusive relationship, then it is not a good idea to stick around. If your partner is unwilling to change his or her abusive ways, then there is no way that your marriage will work out.
4. Thanks to the fact that the country is in bad recession, more and more couples are starting to face financial problems. Couples that are facing severe financial problems will definitely need a strong bond to keep their marriage intact.
5. Physical abuse isn't the only type of the abuse that you can suffer, as emotional abuse can be just as bad. Emotional abuse happens when one spouse continually runs his or her partner down to the point where the abused spouse starts to feel worthless and like they deserve the kind of behavior their mate is giving them.
6. Addictions to various substances are often the cause of a break-up. Alcohol and drugs can often prompt people to become abusive not to mention the fact that it also puts a financial strain on the family.
7. Finally, many people end up getting divorced because their partner failed to live up to their expectations. In the beginning of their relationship, people place lofty expectations on their significant others. As time passes by, these failed expectations can prompt divorce.
