Finding Wisdom In The Marriage Advice of Friends and Relatives

When many couples get married, they tend to be inundated with advice from friends and family members trying to help them get off on the right start. Many of these couples ignore this advice especially when they are in the honeymoon phase of their wedding when everything is going great. True, your marriage is going to be unique to you and your spouse and very different from any of theirs, but there are bits of wisdom you'll be able to glean from the stories they tell you. Therefore, you may need to listen whenever another couple is trying to share advice would you about your marriage.

For instance, whenever your aunt is telling you stories about your uncle Ted, you can ignore all of her excess talk about how she used try to talk to him all the time but he refused to listen to her. Can you actually learn something from her experience though? You can learn that it is important to have communication between partners especially good listening skills. In that story, your aunt may not have had to talk so much if only your uncle had listened to her a bit more. Of course, your uncle may have been more willing to listen to your aunt if only she had given him more spice to wind down after work. Each partner needs to understand the importance of listening and speaking to each other properly.

Hearing your best friends Phil and Anna discuss each others' shortcomings can drive you to distraction, but you can survive listening to them knowing that you are receiving excellent marital advice. After all, you may have known both of them for a very long time. You may be well aware that Phil has always wanted to start his own rock band while Anna has always wanted to be an opera singer and live in New York City. When they first got together, they may have encouraged each other to reach their goals. These past commendable goals may be a source of frequent arguments in their relationship now though. You want to keep these things from happening in your own relationship, so you should learn from your friends.

You can learn a few things from these stories although they aren't true. If you trying to help make your marriage stronger, then try to learn as much as you can from your friends.
